Skill Scrolls
Skill scrolls are special loot that let you push a skill beyond Grandmaster — each scroll raises the maximum of one specific skill by +1.0, up to a hard cap of 120.
Where they drop
- Corpses of slain creatures
- Treasure map chests
- Dungeon chests
- Paragon chests (see Paragons)
- SOS / message-in-a-bottle chests
See the special item table for exactly which chest tiers can contain them.
How they work
- Each scroll is tied to one specific skill and shows that skill in its name.
- Double-click the scroll (in your backpack) to consume it and raise that skill's cap by 1.0.
- You must already be Grandmaster (100.0) in the skill before you can use its scrolls.
- Each skill can be raised to at most 120.
- There is also a per-character budget: across all skills combined, you can add at most 120 bonus cap points from skill scrolls — enough to take six skills from 100 to 120. If you reach the limit, you must drop a bonus elsewhere first.
- Scrolls of the same skill stack, and they can be traded and sold freely.
Not every skill can be raised this way — only the skills listed below have scrolls.
What the extra 20 points buy
Twenty scrolls is a serious investment — a sixth of your entire scroll budget — so it is worth knowing what each skill actually pays out. Five skills pay in a flat, measurable bonus:
| Skill | Per point | 100 → 120 |
|---|---|---|
| Tactics | +0.6% weapon damage | +12% damage bonus (+30% → +42%), which works out to roughly +6 to 7% real damage on a typical warrior |
| Evaluating Intelligence | +0.2% spell damage while your Eval Int is above the target's resist, +0.5% while below it | +4% against a 100-resist target, +11% against a 120-resist one |
| Resisting Spells | −0.5% spell damage taken, and +0.5 points of resist chance | 10% less magic damage from a 100-Eval Int caster, and +10 percentage points to resist any spell |
| Meditation | −0.005s off the mana tick | mana every 0.90s instead of 1.00s — about +11% mana per minute |
| Arms Lore | +0.05% faster swings per point | 5% → 6% off your swing delay, with every weapon, in PvM and PvP alike |
Two details worth knowing before you spend:
- Tactics scrolls work with any weapon. An Accuracy weapon's bonus Tactics (up to +25) is counted on top of the skill's own ceiling, so the two never compete — a Supremely Accurate weapon at Tactics 120 reaches an effective 145 (+57% damage). See Tactics for the full table.
- Meditation's bonus only helps a high-Intelligence character. Below a (Int + Meditation) average of 100 the normal curve was already rewarding you, and it still does — the bonus above exists to fix the top end, where the curve flattens out.
The skills where 120 is a gate
For the rest, the last twenty points are not "a better chance" — they open content that is simply shut below them. This is what most players are really buying:
| Skill | What only the extra points open |
|---|---|
| Mining · Lumberjacking · Skinning | Valorite ore, logs and hides need the full 120. Verite already needs 110, so both top tiers sit above the unscrolled cap |
| Lockpicking | Level 6 (Valorite) chests need 120 to pick at all |
| Cartography | Level 6 treasure maps need 111 before you can even begin deciphering |
| Detect Hidden | Level 6 chests need 90 to find, and 120 to find them every time |
| Remove Trap | Level 6 chests need 100 to attempt — and the guaranteed-success point is 130, beyond even a scrolled cap |
| Blacksmithy · Tailoring | Valorite and Valorite-leather work, and the recipe-gated armor sets that run to 120 |
| Cooking | The chef-tier feasts, the best buff food on the shard, at 100–120 |
| Carpentry · Tinkering | The recipe-gated special dye tubs (110–120) and luck jewelry |
| Alchemy | Lethal poison and the special hair, beard and backpack dyes, all 100+ |
Gathering is the clearest case: at 110 you can pull Verite, but Valorite exists only for a scrolled character. A gatherer without scrolls is locked out of the top material tier entirely, and so is every crafter who wants to work it.
Combat skills in PvP
Those same four skills feed combat directly, so their extra points apply only while you are not PvP flagged:
| Skill | What the extra points do |
|---|---|
| Tactics | Scales every weapon blow |
| Evaluating Intelligence | Scales every damage spell, and mage wrestling |
| Resisting Spells | Cuts incoming spell damage and raises resist chance |
| Meditation | Speeds up passive mana regeneration |
The moment you enter PvP combat you become PvP flagged — the same flag that switches your Skill Masteries off. While it is up, anything you scrolled above 100 is ignored: a Tactics 120 warrior hits exactly as hard as a Tactics 100 warrior with the same equipment, a Resisting Spells 120 mage soaks spells like a 100 one, and Meditation regenerates at its 100 rate. Once the flag expires you are back to your full scrolled values.
Only the scrolled part is ignored — bonuses from your gear still count while flagged, so an Accuracy weapon's bonus Tactics and a Grimoire's Eval Int enchantment work exactly as they always did.
Every other scrollable skill — crafting, gathering, barding, thievery and the rest — works at its full scrolled value everywhere, flagged or not.
