Carpentry

Carpentry is the woodworking trade. With just a saw — no station needed — you turn boards into furniture, containers, musical instruments, wooden weapons and shields, Woodland armor, and a long list of house add-on deeds. The shared crafting rules are in the Crafting Overview.

Wood

Logs come from Lumberjacking; chop a log stack with an axe to make boards (colored woods need Carpentry or Lumberjacking skill to work). Colored wood hues everything you build and gives wooden weapons and shields a magic level, same ladder as metals: Shadow (60 skill to select) through Verite (110) and Valorite (120). See Resources.

What you can build

Group Notable items (skill range)
Furniture Stools (11–36), chairs (21–46), benches and thrones (52.6–77.6), tables up to Large Table (84.2–109.2)
Containers Wooden Box (21–46), crates (10–72), Wooden Chest (73.6–98.6), Armoires (84.2–109.2), Kegs (57.8–82.8)
Instruments Drums and Tambourines (57.8–82.8), Lap Harp (63.1–88.1), Lute (68.4–93.4), Harp (78.9–103.9) — all need Musicianship 45+
Staves and clubs Club (34–84), Quarter Staff and Black Staff (73.6–98.6), Gnarled Staff (78.9–103.9)
Shields and armor Wooden Shield (52.6–77.6); Woodland armor set (80–115, needs Hardened Resin, recipe-gated)
Odds and ends Fishing Pole (68.4–93.4, needs some Tailoring), music stands, easels; Torch (100–120, recipe)
House add-on deeds Anvils and forges (73.6–104), training dummies (68.4–93.4), looms and spinning wheels, stone ovens, flour mills and beds (94.7–120), Pentagram (100–125)
Special dye tubs Cloth / Furniture / Runebook dye tubs — 110–120, recipe-gated

Highlights:

  • Woodland armor — the carpenter's recipe-gated armor set (80–120 skill), built from boards plus Hardened Resin. Wooden armor benefits from exceptional quality like any other armor.
  • House add-on deeds are how player houses get working forges, anvils, looms, ovens, mills, beds, and training stations. Many deeds need a secondary skill (a forge deed needs Blacksmithy, a loom needs Tailoring, a pentagram needs Magery) and some iron ingots or cloth.
  • Special dye tubs (110+ skill) are the rechargeable tubs of the pigment system — see Pigments and Dyes.
  • Instruments require Musicianship 45+ as a second skill and are fully playable — see Barding and Songs.

Repair Deeds are also craftable — one per material tier (regular, shadow, copper, bronze, verite, valorite). Each costs 20 of that tier's material and needs the skill that tier normally requires.

Repair

Carpentry repairs wooden items: a saw fixes wooden weapons, shields, and Woodland armor. See Repairing.

Raising the skill

Carpentry reaches 120 with Crafting skill scrolls. Past 100 you unlock the Torch and dye-tub recipes, the Pentagram, top furniture, and — at 110/120 — the Verite and Valorite woods for top-tier staves and shields.

Thanks to the 50% floor you can start each bracket as soon as it opens:

Skill Build
0–21 Barrel Staves and Small Crates (or buy early points from a Carpenter NPC)
21–42 Wooden Boxes, chairs, Medium Crates
42–58 Nightstands, Large Crates, Wooden Benches
58–74 Kegs, Writing Tables, Fishing Poles
74–84 Wooden Chests, Quarter Staves
84–95 Armoires, Large Tables
95–110 Bed deeds (needs Tailoring 75+), Woodland armor if you have recipes
110–120 Special dye tubs, Pentagram deeds, Valorite-wood weapons

Wood is cheap and self-gathered, making Carpentry one of the least expensive crafts to raise.

Town Quests for carpenters

Your carpentry is worth citizen points

The town Carpenter posts crafting town quests for a set number of one item. They pay citizen points, town score and reward currency, and count toward Town Exports.

Switch it on first. Toggle Craft for Quest in the crafting menu. The label is greyed out until you have a quest for the highlighted item, and turns green once the toggle is on. While it is on, a qualifying craft spends your materials and counts toward the quest — you do not keep the item.

Quests name a wood tier — regular up to verite — and may demand exceptional quality on the items that support it, on roughly a fifth of daily quests rising to half of monthly ones.

Nothing is wasted if you miss the requirement: a craft that does not qualify is simply made the normal way and stays yours, it just earns no progress.
