Detect Hidden

Detect Hidden is the counter to Hiding and Stealth — and on UO Sagas it is also a treasure-hunting skill: dungeon chests spawn invisible, and Detect Hidden is the only way to find them. The skill trains to 120 via Skill Scrolls, with two strong bonuses waiting at the top.

How it works

Use the skill and target a spot on the ground. Everything hidden in an area around that spot can be revealed:

Detect Hidden skill Search radius
below 40 3 tiles
40–109 skill ÷ 10 tiles (10 at GM)
110+ 12 tiles
120 14 tiles
  • Revealing players: your Detect Hidden (±10 random) is compared against the hidden player's Hiding skill (±10 random). Win the contest and they are revealed with a "You have been revealed!" message.
  • Using the skill normally reveals you — but at 120 skill you stay hidden while detecting, letting a stealther sweep for other stealthers without breaking cover.
  • The skill can be used every 5 seconds, shortened to 3 seconds at 110+.
  • In a house you are friended to, one use sweeps the entire house (22 tiles) and reveals everyone inside regardless of their skill.

Finding dungeon chests

Dungeon chests spawn invisible at fixed spots. Sweep the suspected spot with Detect Hidden and, with enough skill, the chest appears — visible only to you until it is picked open. Higher chest levels need more skill to detect, from 0 for level 1 up to 90+ (sure find at 120) for level 6. Full tables in Dungeon Chests.

Training 0 → 120

Detect Hidden only gains when there was actually something hidden in the searched area (and never inside your own house), so training needs a real target:

  1. 0–30: buy points from a thief or ranger trainer.
  2. 30–100: the practical route is chest hunting — every sweep that finds (or barely misses) a hidden dungeon chest is a gain chance, and the chest ladder rises neatly with your skill. A hidden friend or second account works too.
  3. 100–120: deep-dungeon chests (level 5–6) or hidden players with high Hiding.
