Militia

Each citizenship town fields a militia, and the two are at war: the Militia of Westwend and the Militia of Volaria. Enlisting flags you for open-world PvP against the rival militia anywhere in Felucca, and lets you climb a rank ladder by taking their members down.

This is the military arm of Citizenship — you must already be a citizen of a town to join its militia.

Enlisting

Find your town's militia recruiter and pick Join from their context menu (or double-click them). You must be:

  • A citizen of that town — you cannot join the rival's militia, and non-citizens cannot join at all. Register at the town registrar first.
  • Alive, and standing within 3 tiles of the recruiter.
  • Not a murderer — 5 or more murder counts blocks enlistment. See Player Killers.
  • Not already in a militia.

Kill points and rank

Your rank is derived purely from your kill points, recalculated as the total changes:

Rank Kill points Title
1 0 Cadet
2 100 Private
3 200 Corporal
4 400 Sergeant
5 600 First Sergeant
6 800 Lieutenant
7 1,000 First Lieutenant
8 1,300 Captain
9 1,600 Major
10 2,000 Colonel

Both militias use the same ladder and the same titles.

Earning them

Killing a member of the enemy militia transfers points from them to you:

  • The award is one tenth of the victim's current kill points, minimum 1, capped at 40.
  • The victim loses exactly what you gain — this is a transfer, not creation. Points only enter the system through new members.
  • Killing someone in your own militia awards nothing.

Two things stop point farming:

  • A victim sitting at −6 kill points or below is worth nothing: "This victim is not worth enough to get kill points from."
  • Repeatedly killing the same player stops paying out — you have to spread your kills around.

Because the award scales with the victim's score, hunting a Colonel is worth far more than hunting a Cadet, and the top ranks bleed points fastest.

Silver

On top of kill points, a kill pays silver — the militia currency — at 40 silver per kill point awarded, so a 40-point kill pays 1,600. Silver only drops if the victim had a positive kill-point total. It is the militia's own economy: militia vendors deal in it, and it pays for town guards.

Half of each payout is tithed to your militia's treasury by default; the rest reaches your pack — and that same amount is also credited as Town Defense points, the citizenship currency you spend at the registrar. Militia kills are the largest source of Defense in the game.

Leaving

Resigning is not instant — it takes 3 days before your membership actually ends, so you cannot hop sides to dodge a fight. When you do leave, your accumulated kill points are distributed among the remaining members of your militia rather than vanishing.

There is no stat or skill loss for dying in militia combat on UO Sagas.

Balance

The militias are kept from running away with the numbers. Once the larger militia passes 50 members, it cannot grow beyond twice the size of the smaller one — further enlistment is blocked until the other side catches up.
