Dungeon Chests

Dungeon chests are locked, trapped treasure chests that spawn hidden at fixed spots inside dungeons. Finding, revealing and cracking them is a complete treasure-hunter game loop: Detect Hidden, Lockpicking and Remove Trap all play a part.

Chest types ↑ top

There are six chest levels, color-coded with the metal resource hues:

Type Level Required Lockpicking Lock pins
Iron Chest 1 0 2
Shadow Chest 2 40 3
Copper Chest 3 60 4
Bronze Chest 4 80 4
Verite Chest 5 100 5
Valorite Chest 6 120 5

Where a chest of which level can spawn depends on the area: shallow dungeon areas spawn mostly level 1–2 chests, mid areas level 1–4, and deep areas level 3–6 (with level 5 and 6 chests being rare finds even there). The newbie dungeon only spawns level 1 chests.

Finding a chest — Detect Hidden ↑ top

Dungeon chests spawn invisible. Use the Detect Hidden skill near a suspected spawn spot to reveal them:

Chest level Min skill to detect Skill for 100% success
1 0 70
2 50 80
3 60 90
4 70 100
5 80 110
6 90 120

When you reveal a chest, it becomes visible only to you — other players still cannot see it until it is picked open.

Lockpicking ↑ top

Picking the lock is a Lockpicking pin-based mini-game: each chest has 2–5 pins that must be picked in the right order. You can stay hidden while picking (the picking sounds can still be heard by others). On a failed pick:

  • there is a 10% chance to trigger the chest's trap, which also reveals you;
  • if you stay hidden, there is a small additional chance to slip and reveal yourself (reduced by Luck).

When the lock is picked, the chest becomes visible to everyone and fills with loot.

Traps ↑ top

  • While locked, the chest carries a random Explosion or Poison trap with a power of 13 x chest level, which can go off on failed picking attempts. A poison trap deals only half that power as direct damage (2026-08) — the poison it leaves is the real threat — while an explosion trap deals the full amount.
  • The trap cannot be defused while the chest is still locked.
  • The Telekinesis spell only affects level 1 chests; on all higher levels it has no effect. The Unlock spell never works on dungeon chests.
  • Once the lock is picked, a final Explosion trap with a power of 18 x chest level arms on the chest. Remove it with the Remove Trap skill (or eat the damage):
Chest level Remove Trap min skill Skill for 100% success
1 0 70
2 60 90
3 70 100
4 80 110
5 90 120
6 100 130

Looting ↑ top

What's inside ↑ top

Contents scale with the chest's level (1–6):

  • Gold — roughly 90–180 at level 1, up to 540–1080 at level 6
  • Magic scrolls, a few potions and several pieces of magic equipment
  • A handful of gems and a small stack of crafting resources, better material but smaller stacks the higher the level
  • Levels 3–6 only: a chance at a special item. It is a fair chance at level 3 and climbs steadily with the chest level, plus a small bonus from Luck

The special item table ↑ top

When any chest rolls its special item, the outcome depends on the chest's tier. Treasure map and SOS chests use this same table.

Tier Possible special items Most likely
1 Skill scroll · Uncommon pigment an even split
2 Skill scroll · Uncommon pigment · Uncommon/Rare pigment · skill cap ball scroll or Uncommon pigment
3 Skill scroll · skill cap ball · Uncommon/Rare pigment · mastery gem an even split
4 Skill scroll · skill cap ball · Uncommon/Rare/Epic pigment · mastery gem mastery gem
5 Uncommon/Rare/Epic pigment · Epic/Legendary pigment the lower pigment tier
6 Skill scroll · skill cap ball · Epic/Legendary pigment · mastery gem · mastery souls Epic/Legendary pigment

Luck shifts these odds slightly toward the rarer entries. The prizes themselves:

  • Skill scrolls — raise one skill's cap by +1, up to 120
  • Skill cap increase balls — raise your total skill cap by +1, up to 720
  • Pigments — special dye colours, Uncommon through Legendary
  • Mastery gems and souls — for Skill Masteries

Looting rights ↑ top

Only the player who picked the lock has looting rights. Anyone else who loots the chest commits a criminal act and turns grey. The picker can loot while hidden; other players are revealed when they loot.

Decay ↑ top

An opened chest decays after 15 minutes, or 5 minutes once it has been emptied — loot it before it crumbles.

Chest destruction ↑ top

  • Only the player who picked the lock may destroy the chest.
  • Single-click (or right-click) the opened chest and choose Destroy from the context menu. All items still inside are lost.
  • There is a very small chance that instead of being destroyed, the chest appears in your backpack as a "Treasure Chest" container in the same color hue (iron, shadow, copper, bronze, verite or valorite) — a nice collectible.
