Inflammable Oil
Inflammable oil is a throwable alchemy potion. Instead of exploding on impact, the bottle shatters and spreads puddles of oil across the ground. The oil itself is harmless — until something sets it on fire. Then the whole spill goes up in a chain of flames that burn anything standing in them. A favorite tool for controlling monster packs in PvM.
The two versions
| Potion | Alchemy skill | Materials | Recipe needed | Flame damage | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() |
Inflammable Oil | 45–95 | 5 sulfurous ash, 5 spiders' silk, 1 bottle | no | 3 per second |
![]() |
Greater Inflammable Oil | 75–120 | 8 sulfurous ash, 8 spiders' silk, 1 bottle | yes | 6 per second |
Both are crafted with Alchemy. They are not sold by NPC vendors.
How to use it
- Double-click the bottle and target a spot up to 10 tiles away (you need line of sight).
- The bottle shatters and creates a puddle at the impact point plus up to 6 more puddles in a 2-tile radius.
- Puddles last 45 seconds, then dry up.
- Ignite the oil: throw an explosion potion into the spill, or let it touch an existing flame. Once one puddle catches fire, the flames spread to every adjacent puddle in a chain reaction.
- Anything standing in a burning puddle takes the flame damage every second, and again each time it steps into one.
There is a 5 second cooldown between throws.
Good to know
- Each flame burns out after dealing a limited total amount of damage (15 ticks' worth), or when the puddle's 45 seconds are up.
- Fire creatures (fire elementals and their kin) are immune to the flames.
- The thrower is not immune — don't stand in your own fire.
- With the Alchemy skill mastery, the Fire Starter perk increases the flame damage against monsters.
- Throwing oil is an aggressive act and will reveal you if you are hidden.
