Tailoring

Tailoring produces cloth clothing, leather and studded armor, footwear, bone armor and some of the shard's most sought-after recipe-gated pieces — the Leaf armor set and the leather and studded mempos. On Renaissance-era Sagas, colored leather gives armor its built-in magic level, making the Grandmaster tailor a genuine armor smith. See the Crafting Overview for the general model.

Tools and workplace ↑ top

Everything is sewn with a sewing kit — no loom, spinning wheel or other station is required, so you can tailor anywhere. Sewing kits are made by tinkers (see Tinkering); scissors (also tinker-made) cut your raw cloth.

The sewing kit ↑ top

A kit holds 100 uses, or 150 if it was crafted exceptionally — quality buys charges and nothing else. The metal it was tinkered from is what upgrades your work: each tier adds exceptional chance and pushes every magic attribute roll:

Sewing kit Exceptional chance Magic rolls
Iron sewing kit Iron
Shadow Iron sewing kit Shadow Iron +5% up to +2 points
Copper sewing kit Copper +10% up to +4 points
Bronze sewing kit Bronze +15% up to +7 points
Verite sewing kit Verite +20% up to +9 points
Valorite sewing kit Valorite +25% up to +12 points

The magic-roll push is rolled fresh on every craft — the figure is the tier's ceiling, shown on the recipe page's Details toggle as Tool material. The prize commission is an exceptional Valorite kit: 150 charges and the best bonuses in one tool.

Materials ↑ top

Material Source Used for
Cloth Cloth Cut a bolt of cloth with scissors → 50 cloth All clothing; footwear
Leather Leather Skinning creatures All armor and footwear
Bone Bone Skeletal creatures Bone armor (plus leather)
Enchanted Bark Enchanted Bark Rare drop Leaf armor and leather mempo (plus leather)

Cloth and bolts are dyeable, so clothing is usually dyed after crafting. Leather armor instead takes its color from the leather tier it is made from:

Leather Skill to use Maximum armor level
Regular 0 (none)
Shadow 60 Defense
Copper 80 Guarding
Bronze 100 Hardening
Verite 110 Fortification
Valorite 120 Invulnerability

Armor made from colored leather rolls a protection level and a durability level, capped by the tier above — with your tool's material and your Luck nudging the roll. See Resources for the full material reference.

What you can craft ↑ top

Clothing (cloth). Hats (0–32 skill), shirts, dresses and tunics (0–58), pants and skirts (20–54), cloaks (41–66) and robes (54–79), plus sashes, aprons and oil cloth. Clothing has no armor value — it's fashion, dye it any color you like.

Footwear (cloth + leather). Sandals (12), shoes (17), boots (33) and thigh boots (41).

Leather armor. The bread-and-butter suit, 6–96 skill and 2–12 leather a piece — the cap (6–31) is the cheapest thing a tailor can make, the tunic (71–96, 12 leather) the last piece you'll manage, with gloves, gorget, sleeves and leggings filling the middle. Female variants (bustiers, skirts, shorts, female chests) sit in the 58–87 range, and a leather Quiver (80–100, 10 leather) rounds out the archer's kit.

Studded armor. The heavier leather line, 79–120 skill, 6–14 leather per piece — the studded chest (94–120) is a classic Grandmaster trainer. The studded mempo (80–110) is recipe-gated.

Bone armor. 85–121 skill, needs leather plus bones — from the bone helm (85) up to the bone chest (96–121). Includes the orc helm.

Leaf armor. The full Leaf set (80–110 skill) — gorget, arms, gloves, legs, tonlet and chest — each needs Enchanted Bark equal to its leather cost and a learned recipe. The leather mempo (80–110, 5 leather + 5 bark) is gated the same way.

Repair Deeds are also craftable — one per material tier (regular, shadow, copper, bronze, verite, valorite). Each costs 20 of that tier's material and needs the skill that tier normally requires.

Exceptional quality ↑ top

Tailoring has a 50% minimum success chance on every recipe. Exceptional armor gets a higher armor rating and +20 durability, and with 100+ skill you can affix your maker's mark. The exceptional-chance penalty also eases as your skill climbs past 95 (all the way to 120), and the mastery's Perfect Stitch perk adds up to +20% — a maxed tailor turns out exceptional pieces reliably. Leather armor and clothing are repairable with the sewing kit.

Raising the cap to 120 ↑ top

Tailoring reaches 120 via Crafting skill scrolls. The payoff: Valorite leather needs 120 skill — the only route to Invulnerability-capped leather and studded armor. It also lifts your success odds on the top recipes (studded chest, bone chest) that only max out at 120+.

Training path ↑ top

Skill What to craft
0 – 30 Skull caps and bandanas (2 cloth), then hats
30 – 54 Short/long pants, fancy dresses, full aprons
54 – 79 Robes (16 cloth) or leather gorgets/arms
66 – 96 Leather legs, then leather chests — sellable and cuttable back into leather
79 – 108 Studded gorgets, gloves and arms
91 – 120 Studded legs and chests; bone armor if you have bones

Buy bolts of cloth from tailor shops for the early stretch; from the leather stage onward, either hunt-and-skin your own leather or buy it. Crafted leather armor can be cut back into leather with scissors, recovering part of your material on the pieces you don't sell.

Skill Mastery ↑ top

The Tailoring Mastery (learned from a Tailor or Weaver at 90 skill) adds up to +20% exceptional chance, pushes the magic attribute rolls of the leather armor you sew, and — as the template bonus — gives exceptional colored-leather pieces a chance to come out as Slayer armor. Its ultimate, Weaver's Fortune, can refund a craft's materials or gild a colored piece into a golden part. Every successful craft earns mastery XP, scaled by the amount and grade of leather it consumed.

Town Quests for tailors ↑ top

Your tailoring is worth citizen points

The town Tailor posts crafting town quests for a set number of one item. They pay citizen points, town score and reward currency, and count toward Town Exports.

Switch it on first. Toggle Craft for Quest in the crafting menu. The label is greyed out until you have a quest for the highlighted item, and turns green once the toggle is on. While it is on, a qualifying craft spends your materials and counts toward the quest — you do not keep the item.

Daily and weekly quests accept any material; bi-weekly and monthly ones name a leather tier. Exceptional quality is asked for on roughly a fifth of daily quests, rising to half of monthly ones.

Nothing is wasted if you miss the requirement: a craft that does not qualify is simply made the normal way and stays yours, it just earns no progress.
