Peacemaking

Peacemaking calms aggressive creatures with soothing music, taking them out of the fight. On UO Sagas the skill is used through the Song of Peacemaking from your Songbook; the skill button in the skills list only points you there. Buy the music sheet (450 gold) from a Bard NPC — the song system is explained in Barding and Songs.

Two ways to play it

Play the song and choose a target:

  • Target yourself — area calm. Every hostile creature within 6 tiles briefly stops fighting (about 1 second, up to ~2.6 seconds with maxed Duration and Virtuoso). A short breather to break aggro or run — some particularly strong creatures shrug off the area calm.
  • Target one creature — long calm. The creature is pacified for 20 seconds by default, up to 52 seconds with maxed Duration levels and the Virtuoso perk.

Tune Shattering: a pacified creature that takes damage may snap out of it — the more wounded it is, the more likely. You cannot re-calm a creature that is already calmed.

Against players

Unusually for a bard skill, Peacemaking works in PvP: you can target a player who is in PvP combat (or yourself). On success the target drops out of war mode and any spell they are casting is interrupted — a real weapon against enemy mages. The Protection spell can resist it, and peacing a player adds 2 seconds to your song cooldown.

Difficulty

The area calm has no target difficulty — it is a straightforward skill check. Calming a single creature checks your skill against the creature's barding difficulty (25 for the weakest up to 180 for the strongest, ±25 window), reduced by Musicianship over 100, instrument quality, song Potency and the Virtuoso perk — full math and examples in Barding and Songs. Peacing a player is a moderate, fixed-difficulty check.

A magic instrument of Peacemaking adds +5 to +25 directly to your Peacemaking skill while it is your active instrument.

Immune creatures

Creatures that are immune to all bard songs (ogres, ogre lords, golems, bog things and several boss-tier monsters, among others) cannot be calmed. On top of that, some creatures are specifically immune to Peacemaking — including champions, balrons and ancient liches.

Raising the skill

Peacemaking can be trained to 100 and, with Barding skill scrolls, capped up to 120.

Skill Method
0–30 Pay a Bard NPC for training
30–100 Spam the area calm (target yourself) — it gains across this whole range, no monsters required
100–120 Calm tough single targets — high-difficulty creatures are needed for further gains

Every song attempt also trains Musicianship. Gains follow the normal rules in Skills Overview.

Damage dealt to targets you pacified earns Barding Points (half of your own damage, a quarter of others' damage), which level up your songs — see Barding and Songs.
