Lumberjacking Mastery

One of the three gathering masteries. They share an identical perk structure and a single shared proc outcome roll — see also Mining and Skinning. Unlike the combat masteries, these level from harvesting rather than from kills. See Skill Masteries for the system itself.

Requires Lumberjacking at 90.0
Taught by Carpenter — 10,000 gold
Ultimate Old Growth

Perks

Perk Effect per level At level 8
Bountiful Timber 2.5% chance to double the harvested amount 20% chance
Sturdy Axe 5% chance not to use up a hatchet use 40% chance
Heartwood (template) 1.5% chance to upgrade the wood one tier 12% chance

The doubled yield is magical surplus — it does not drain extra wood from the tree's bank, so Bountiful Timber is pure profit.

Heartwood only fires if your Lumberjacking skill is high enough for the upgraded tier. If it is not, nothing is wasted — the roll simply does not apply.

Ultimate — Old Growth

Fires on a successful chop at 0.4% per proc level (3.2% at level 8) — a little above Motherlode's rate. A chop is one to three swings of the hatchet where a mining action is a single swing, so a lumberjack rolls less often per hour; the higher rate keeps the ultimate, its mastery items and the rare coming at the miner's pace. When it fires, one outcome is rolled — it never fizzles:

Outcome Chance Details
Triple yield 62% Three times the harvested amount
Tree upgrade 20.5% The whole tree upgrades one tier until it respawns. Falls back to triple yield if your skill is too low
Mastery Gem 10% Lumberjacking-matched
Mastery Soul 5% Lumberjacking-matched
Mastery Fragment 2.5% Lumberjacking-matched
Cart with Logs house addon very rare A separate pre-roll before the outcomes above. Placed in a house, facing chosen on placement

Earning XP

Gathering masteries earn XP per successful harvest, scaled by material tier. The multipliers run 2 / 6 / 10 / 16 / 24 / 36 from Regular up to the rarest wood — chopping rare wood levels the mastery roughly 18× faster than chopping ordinary logs. Wood XP is then multiplied by 1.6 for the same reason the ultimate fires more often: a chop takes longer than a swing, and XP is paid per chop, so a lumberjack now levels the mastery at about the miner's pace per hour.

Suspected unattended (AFK) gatherers receive no mastery bonuses at all and earn no XP.
